Juan J. Aviles, age 30, was arrested in connection to the Fairfield County crime, which happened in the town of Fairfield, the town’s police department said on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Aviles is thought to have been the person who smashed the front window of Lenox Jewelers, located at 2500 Black Rock Turnpike on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Police reported seeing Aviles’ car drive off from the scene as they arrived, where $56,000 worth of jewelry had been taken, but said that it was driving too fast to stop.

As the burglar’s car had been identified, investigators kept tabs on it.

Then, at midnight on Thursday, Dec. 7, the car drove back to Lenox Jewelers. As it drove to the back of the store, police convened, and subsequently arrested Aviles.

He is currently charged with:

  • Criminal attempt of burglary;
  • Resisting arrest; and
  • Misuse of plates.

Additionally, investigators are reportedly working on getting an arrest warrant for Aviles for the original burglary.

Further information, including where Aviles lives, was not released.
